Our Mission and Activities
L’Assemblée is organized exclusively for the charitable cultural, educational, and economic benefit of the people of Louisiana. The purpose of this corporation is:
to maintain, develop, and promote the language, culture, and identity of the people of Louisiana;
to preserve and ensure the long-term survival and widespread normalization of our heritage Louisiana French and Louisiana Creole languages;
to support existing French immersion schools;
to facilitate and fund the opening of French immersion schools in every historically French-or-Creole-speaking community in Louisiana and ensure French immersion education is accessible to every Louisiana family who demands it;
to incorporate our heritage Louisiana French and Louisiana Creole languages as well as our heritage Louisiana culture into French immersion schools as well as traditional schools;
to create written, audiovisual, digital, and other resources that facilitate learning of our heritage languages and cultures;
to offer classes and other adult learning opportunities in our heritage Louisiana French and Louisiana Creole languages and unique cultural traditions;
to unite all Creole, Cajun, Indigenous, and other peoples of Louisiana behind our shared cultural, linguistic, economic, and environmental interests;
to leverage our unique language and culture for job creation and economic development;
to support economic and community development initiatives necessary for the survival of our people and our heritage language communities;
to defend the homeland of our people—the state of Louisiana—and all it constituent natural heritage (including through coastal restoration) to secure a future for our language, our culture, and our people;
and to support and partner with small businesses, community organizations, non-profit organizations, educational institutions, government entities, and other actors who share these core values.
